Inspirational Prayers: 00061

Abram held offices of priest (Gen 13:4, 22:13), prophet (Gen 20:7) and a prayer warrior (Gen 20:17) along with "daddy of the faithful." I would say, he was 'NAPOTISTIC' as well, coz he held the office of king/warrior to release his captivated nephew from the "battle in the valley of Siddim" (Gen 14:8b). Abram forcefully sent away Lot along with his possessions after strife between their herders (Gen 13:9), yet he loved Lot even after 13 years (Gen 14:4). When he heard about Lot's captivity he operated his skills as a king and routed/ pursued enemy (Gen 14:15). Dear God, several times we never stretch out hands to our near & dear. Give us the same heart like Abram to care, share and bear each other’s burden. In Jesus name we pray. Amen

Psalm 121:1-2 says “I lift up my eyes to the hills from where will my help come from? My help comes from the Lord who made Heaven and Earth.” This is a song of Ascents (usually sung by Hebrew pilgrimages on their way to Jerusalem or while ascending to mount Zion). After the strife between Abram and Lot, Abram asked Lot to separate with him (Gen 13:9). Without any hesitation Lot “looked up” and chose Sodom & Gomorrah – Destruction (13:10- Human will or choices). After separation, Abram settled in Canaan fully trusting in Gods will and timing (Gen 13:12). Then the Lord said to Abram “Raise your eyes” (Gen 13:14). Without any hesitation Abram moved like a   pilgrim to Zion fully trusting in Gods will & timing. Dear God, several times we make choice out of our own will and fail to submit to your authority. Help us to submit to your will and to obey your Word. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

According to Gen 7:1 Noah was a righteous man and we don’t have record of Noah family’s integrity (pre-flood). But Noah’s wife, sons and daughter-in – laws entered the ark along with Noah. In Genesis 7:16 “God shut him (Noah) in.” In Hebrew the word “shut” is transliterated as (cagar/sagar). In the Hiphil (Hebrew stems) form the word “cagar” gives English meaning as “to deliver up (to bring or transport to the proper place).” Dear God, we admit that sometimes you will purposefully shut the doors to give new openings, and new beginnings with better places which is far beyond our human imagination. You always want to deliver us to the proper place. Apart from Noah, Noah’s family didn’t not experienced your plan and revelation but submitted to your will. The result of shutting the door is for a new beginning, new creation, new covenant and promise. Like Noah’s family we belong to the place which is prepared by you. Help us to discern your will. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen

Bible was written in a patriarchal society. Women were given less prominence in Biblical literature. Not mentioning the names of women was common practice in Biblical writings. Bible is inspired Word of God, written by men. Moses wrote Torah without any authorship crisis. Genesis 7:7, 7:13&8:18 pre-flood narrative says 1) Noah 2) Noah’s sons 3) Noah’s wife and Noah’s daughter in laws (This is human order- written by Moses). We see patriarchal mind set giving priority to sons of Noah than, wife of Noah. But in Gen 8:15-16 God followed His orderly creation (First-Adam, second-Eve), by mentioning Noah and Noah’s wife (Naamah) together and then Noah’s sons, thus proving his symmetrical importance to couples. Dear God, help us not to show incongruence between male and female in our Churches and society. In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

Psalm 18:30 says “This God- His way is perfect.” Moses made a mistake/stumbled alike humans. He is not clear in following your Word. In fact, he used his own way of executing divine order. In Numbers 20:8b says, “Command the rock before their (Israelites) eyes to yield its water” but Moses did not executed your divine guidance and tried his human intelligence to yield water by sticking the rock (Numbers 20:11). Though water came out abundantly to drink, Moses lost entrance in the Promise land (Numbers: 12). Dear God, you are guiding us all the time through your word. That is why, your Word says “YOUR WORD IS LAMP TO THE FEET BUT NOT TO OUR WAY.” Sometimes it is our self-inflicted deeds making us down. You are perfect in guiding us, but as humans, we are failing with imperfection. Help us to be perfect to give light and Hope to our lives. In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

Stephen (First Martyr in NT) was one of the early deacons and preacher in early Church. He could be compared with Enoch & Elijah in OT. All three have interconnectedness with heavenly realms. Eventually we have record of Stephen in only 13 verses. But he shook the World with his speech before the Jewish rulers and claimed universalism of the Gospel. I would say, Stephen was theologically greater than Peter who used to believe in Jewish association with Gentiles is unlawful. Later confessed "I should not call anyone profane or unclean" (Acts 10:28-29). Stephen also made tremendous impact on St. Paul (Acts 22:19-21). Dear God, we just want to introspect how our words / deeds/ mannerisms/dealings/nature and thoughts are affecting others. Sometimes we speak but No Life in our words. Our deeds are futile O God. Make us to impact others, which lead to Life. In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
