O
God of Abram. Thank you for the initial relationship with Abram (humanity) in
Gen 12 and for making us children of Abraham in faith. Abraham lived in a
context where people used to marry between bro's and sisters (Gen 20:12).
Though it is not wrong to possess possessions from Old Testament perspective,
New Testament says in Matthew 6:19 "do not store up for yourselves
treasures on earth." Thank you Jesus for your gracious teachings. In Gen
12:1 you said to Abram "Go, from your country and your kindred and your
father’s house to the land that I will show you." Nahor and Milcah stayed
behind but Abram took Lot (his brother's son) and all the possessions along
with him (Gen 12:5). Dear God, thank you for blessing Abram and Lot with
innumerable wealth (Gen 13:2, 5). But we see something strange happened in Gen
13:6 where they "could not live together" and there was strife
between them (Gen 13:7) because of their possessions. So Abram and Lot
separated (father and son). And we also notice Canaanites and Perizzites living
in the land in the next verse. O God you are teaching something to us through
this narrative. Let our heart be attentive to your teachings. Possession and
wealth separated father and son relationship and the world (Canaanites and
Perizzites = World) is watching two Godly men (Abram and Lot) fighting with
each other. O master we need favour but not any kind of possessions. Let your
BLOOD BE OUR ONLY POSSESSION. Your blood washes us, cleanses us and it will
make us whole new creation. Thank you for your Son, Thank you for His nail
pierced hand. Thank you for making me as your priority. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
